In English

Through literature I can reach countless worlds, in my blog you’ll see these worlds through my eyes. You can find an english summary after each post.

I started my blog, named Pauline von Dahl, in October 2014 inspired by Helsinki Book Fair. See my first-ever post here!

Pauline von Dahl is an alias, and it’s a combination of my own name with a hint of literature. I’ve always loved books and writing, so it was a natural way to combine these into a blog. Writing a book blog really has brought a new life to my reading hobby, too.

The books in this blog are rated by using the following scale:

– couldn’t finish

* mediocre    * * decent   * * * promising   * * * * entertaining  * * * * * unique

Book reviews in this blog are subjective and reviewed books mainly my own, library loans or occasionally review copies from a publisher (in which case it is clearly mentioned in the post). Book reviews can naturally be found under category Review. In addition, I sometimes write shorter Introductions, and summaries of interviews or book related events, mainly located in Helsinki region, Finland.

Regarding to books, I warmly welcome all kind of genres. Mainly I read in Finnish, but you can find an english summary / translation usually in the end of the blog post. I have so many favourite books, so it’s impossible to name all of them, bu the list includes for example books like Mary Shelley, Frankenstein; Elisabeth Kostova, The Historian; Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray; Margaret Weiss, The Death Gate Cycle; Susan Fletcher, Corrag; Anthony Kiedis, Scar Tissue; Marquis de Sade, Justine; Patrick Süskind, Perfume, just to name a few of them. In my mini-bookchallenge I listed three books which impressed me, and lately I’ve been fascinated by some great non-fiction books like Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air, Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens and Hans Rosling’s Factfulness.

The best way to find out what I’m currently reading (and have read) is to follow my Goodreads account, feel free to add me as friend!
